Smokers, percentage of population , 1950-1990
The bar graph provides information about the percentage of men and women that were smokers between 1950 and 1990.
Overall, it was clear that there were higher percentage of men that smokes compared to women from 1950 to 1990.
In 1950, majority of smokers where men at 80%, in which it was the highest percentage in the entire period, whereas women smokers were only below 20%. After a decade, male smokers were still leading just below four-fifths and female smokers had a slight increase to a fifth. In 1970, although the population of women that smoke doubled compared to 10 years ago, men were still higher at around seven in ten.
10 years later (1980), the population of male smokers decreased by one in ten, in contrast, female smokers reached its highest population at more than two-fifths. At the end of the period, both sexes declined its number of smokers, but apparently, men were still higher compared to women at almost 50% and above 30%, accordingly.
