The bar chart provides information about the proportion of senior citizen in japan, Sweden and the United States during a century from 1940 to 2040. Overall, there is an upward trend in all countries and it is predicted that japan will rank first at the end of the period.
In the first year, the figure for senior citizen in japan was the lowest, and it stood at precisely 5% followed by a slight decrease of about 3% in 1960. Between 1960 and 1980, the number was unchange at around 3%, then it started to rise moderately in the following year. After which, it is predicted that the quantity will reach 10% along with a dramatic rise to the peak of a number of more than 25% in the final year.
USA and Sweden began the period just below 10% (approximately 9% and 7% respectively). In the following 40 years, both countries increased markedly of about 15% and 14% each, then the share of Sweden surpassed that of America in 2000 (15%) before it rose significantly of about 20% in 2019. It is estimated that the number of Elderly people in Sweden will increase to more than 25% in 2040, while the figure for the USA will account just below 25%.
