The passage and the lecture both discuss about the methods to avoid injury to birds while travelling through glass windows of big buildings. The author states three ways to prevent this problem. The lecturer challenges all these claims made in the following way.
Firstly, the passage mentions that by replacing regular glass with one way glass birds would consider it as a solid barrier and will not hit it. However, the lecturer claims that the one way glass will reflect and as such it would reflect either a blue sky or a tree. This in turn can cause harm to the birds since it would consider the building as a tree or sky and hit it.
Secondly, using colourful designs like using thin stripes over the glass when seen by the birds will avoid it. The lecturer rebuts this point of the author by stating that birds will consider the space between the stripes as a hole and will come near the glass. But if the stripes are so close to each other there will be a difference which will also make the room darker.
Thirdly, the reading posits that by emitting magnetic field signals on the window the birds will be guided away from the building since many birds use magnetic field for navigation. The speaker refutes this point from the passage too. He elaborates that birds use the magnetic field based flying to travel long distances for instance to move from cold weather to warm weather conditions and not used for short distances.
To conclude, these are the ways by which lecturer casts doubts on the viewpoints made by the author.
