(IELTS ACADEMIC 9 - Test 2)
The bar chart illustrates the total quantities of minutes(in billions) of three kinds of telephone calls in the UK from 1995 to 2002. Overall, it is clear that the difference between the three sorts of telephone calls was much smaller in 2002 than in 1995, although local-fixed line was still used most frequently.
In 1995, Local—fixed line was the most popular among the three types, with nearly 72 billion minutes used. It was followed by national and international—fixed line, with about 35 billion minutes spent, and mobiles played the smallest role(only about 3 billion minutes).
Over the period of the seven years, the figure for local—fixed line experienced ups and downs/fluctuations, increasing to a peak at 90 billion minutes in 1999 and then falling back to the 1995 data in 2002. However, the number of minutes used in National and international—fixed line showed a gradual/steady increase, reaching approximately 60 billion minutes by 2002. The same trend can also be seen in that in mobiles, but it increased more significantly after 1998, standing at roughly 40 billion minutes in 2002.
