The diagram below shows how electricity is generated in a hydroleectric power plant.
The diagram given illustrates the method of electricity generation in a hydroelectric power plant.
First of all, water from a river is accumulated in a high-level reservoir which is guarded by a dam. Under the dam, there is an intake, which is open during daytime and closed at night. In daytime, the water from the high-level reservoir flows through the intake to the reversible turbines, which are located in a power station. In the power station, there is a generator that is connected with the turbines, which generates electricity. The generator is connected through a power line through which it transmits electricity to the national grid.
The water that is discharged from the turbine goes to a low-level reservoir at daytime during operation. At night, water from the low-level reservoir is pumped back to the high-level reservoir. The whole process repeats the same way.
