The pie charts illustrate the shares of different foreign languages that students in one university in English who are from Britain could use.
Overall, it is noticeable that the number of students who were able to speak Spanish accounted for the highest proportion in both 2000 and 2010. Furthermore, the percentages of British students having ability to speak a foreign language apart from French, Spanish and German was the lowest in 2000, nonetheless, in 2010, this figure experienced a slight increase up to 15%.
In 2000, there were 20% of total British students who were unable to speak foreign languages. However, after ten years, the number declined to 10%, which means that there was only 1 student in every 10 students did not speak foreign languages.
In 2010, 20% of students could speak two languages other than French, Spanish and German, which was higher than that in the year of 2000 at 10%. In addition, in both 2000 and 2010, the shares of German language remained unchanged at 10% of total, while that of French decreased slightly from 15% in 2000 to 10% in 2010.
