a table shows monthly expenditure of an Australian family in 1991 and in 2001
The table gives an overall view about total spending every month of a family in Australia between 1991 and 2001.
As can be seen from the table, the total expenditure increased slightly from 675 dollars to 715 dollars. Of all areas, in particular, food was always at the top spending, increasing from 155 dollars to 160 dollars in 10 years. Electricity and water, although starting from only a half of food, but experienced a greater rise, almost doubling its figure in 2001 with 120 dollars. Housing came third, with a mere 5 dollars increase over the same period, reaching 100 dollars at the end.
A reversed pattern can be seen in transport and clothing which stood at the last positions. While transport’s expenditure was declined by a half, dropping to only 45 dollars, clothing had a lower decrease of 10 dollar, but came last with a mere 20 dollars. Other goods and services, meanwhile, made up the remaining from 250 dollars to 270 dollars in the given period.
To recap, it is noticeable that this Australian spent the highest amount of money on food every month. However, it was electricity and water that increased at the largest level.
