Overall, the vast majority of electricity in Ireland is produced from coal and gas, while only a small percentage is generated from wind and solar. The main reasons to consume electricity is heating and lighting home, whilst kitchen appliances and other reasons only take a small proportion of this consumption.
A significant majority of electricity produced in Ireland comes from fossil fuels such as coal and gas, at 45% and 35% respectively, which is four times higher than the total electricity made from renewable resources such as wind and solar, which only comprise of 10% for each.
The largest electricity consumption in Ireland is warming the house, which is accounted for 55%, followed by lighting and kitchen appliances at 20% and 15% respectively. Consumer electronics and phone charging only use a small amount of electricity, at 5% for each category.
