The diagrams below show the house designs for cold and warm climates
The diagrams compare the design of houses in cold and warm climates.
Overall, the shape of the roof is the most prominent difference in the house designed for two climates. It is also noticeable that they differ in the use of insulation and windows.
The house designed for cold climate has a high-angled roof while in warm climate houses are built with a triangular roof that overhangs on both sides to provide shade for windows. Thermal building material and insulation are used in cold climates to reduce the heat loss while a reflective roof material and insulation are needed in warm climates to prevent outside heat from going inside the house.
With regard to the window, houses in cold climate have one window that faces the direction of the sun, which allows sunlight to pass through. Houses in warm climates are designed with windows on two sides that are closed and covered during daytime and in the night these are kept open to provide ventilation.
