Overall, the proportion of population age 65 and over in three countries had a significant increase over 100 years. In particular, the figure of Japan was the lowest in 1940 and reached the highest point after 100 years. Meanwhile, the figure in USA and Sweden also increased substantially but were not more pronounced than the figure in Japan.
As regard the first, the population age 65 and over in Japan was the lowest with an estimated five percent in 1940, and decline slightly to about four percent until after 1980. However, the figure saw a massive rise which was five percent, ten percent and 25% in 2002, 2025 and 2027, respectively. In 2040, the proportion of Japan peaked at 27%, the highest of three figures.
Besides, other countries also elevated between 1940 and 2040. In 1940, it was approximately seven percent and ten percent with the rate of Sweden and USA, respectively. The figure of two countries has similarly increases, all are moderate, with about 15% in 1982. After that, the proportion of Sweden fluctuated widely before reaching 25% in 2040. There was a slight decrease in the figure of USA from 1982 to 2020 then increased fast by around 10% in 2040.
