Your local city council has decided to pull down the oldest building in your area because of monetary problems. Write a letter to the planning manager. In your letter
– Say why this building is important to you
– Explain what purpose this building can serve in the future
– Suggest possible ways to generate funds for the repair work.
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to request you to reconsider the local council’s decision regarding the demolition of the oldest building in the Central City area.
This ancient building was built in the early 18th century by the British rulers, therefore, it is a heritage of not only our locality but also for this city. In addition, doors and interiors of the building are made of African blackwood which is apart from being extremely expensive is rare to find these days. Since it is a marvellous piece of structural engineering, demolishing it is highly unfair.
As this building has a significant amount of historical and aesthetic value, once it is repaired, will bring a tremendous amount of money by serving as a famous tourist spot. With an upsurge of tourists, it would bring employment opportunities for local restaurants, shopping complex and hotels. Indeed, in the long run, it has a lot to offer economically to our city.
I understand your concern about getting funding for the renovation work; therefore, I suggest you organise charity events along with some fundraisers going door-to-door in order to collect much-required funds. Certainly, residents will contribute and appreciate your step.
Hope you would consider my plea favourably.
Yours faithfully,
Alex Barns
