You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
Although you have never formally studied computing, you have always been interested in computers. You have just read about a computer course that really interests you, but it is only for people who have completed an elementary course.
Write a letter to the college enrolment officer. In your letter
• explain why you are writing
• describe your circumstances
• ask if a special exception can be made for you so you can enrol in the course
You do NOT need to write any addresses. Begin your letter as follows:
Dear
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to inquire about the enrollment for the course Data Analytics mentioned in the newspaper yesterday. I am currently working as a economist, but have greater interest in computer studies. It would be great if you can consider me, as I do not have completed an elementary course in the same field.
I have my masters in economics and after working with data and doing heavy number crunching, I have realized my passion towards the advanced technologies in data analytics. In fact, I have learnt SQL, R languages related to data analysis from a fellow colleague who is a data scientist out of pure interest.
While I understand that this course requires a mandatory completion of elementary course, I request you to consider my case as an exception and will not let you down for this great deed. I am willing to come to the college and may be you can test my computing skills and can take a call. I strongly believe that with the advancements, technology has become an integral part in everyone's life and this course will enhance my technological cravings.
Looking forward to hear from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Sumanth
