The bar graph illustrates the percentage changes in house prices in five big cities during the 1990-2002 period compared with those in 1989.
The first impression is that overall, there was a downward trend in figures between 1990-1995. This means that the costs of houses dropped over these years. In contrast, the 1996-2002 phase witnessed an upward tendency in general.
In particular, London, Tokyo, and New York saw their prices decrease pretty significantly, at -7.5%, -7.5%, and -5% respectively. Despite that, it costs slightly more over the years for homes in Madrid and Frankfurt, at 2% and 2.5% in the same order.
On the other hand, the most dramatic change was seen in London from 1996-2002, at 12%. The rest of the cities shared this same rising trend but the extent was not as significant. Specifically, the prices went up to 5%, 4%, and 1% in New York, Madrid, and Frankfurt. The only exception was Tokyo where homes were priced 5% lower than they were in 1989.
