The diagram illustrates the proportion of men and women who taught at 6 kinds of British educational setting in 2010.
In general, female teachers were more popular in the first three types: nursery/pre-school, primary and secondary school whereas the percentage of male ones was higher in the last two ones.
In term of nursery/pre-school and primary school, women accounted for over 90% of teachers, compared to less than 10% of male ones. However, to the higher parts of educational system, the contribution of man increased dramatically, to under 50% at secondary level and the same as that of women at college. With a regard to private training institute and university, the percentage of male teachers continued to grow at a slower rate, more than 50% and 60% in term. Meanwhile, that of female ones tended to decline slightly, to less than 50% and 40%, respectively.
To sum up, as the level of education went up, the proportion of male teachers rose significantly, in opposed to the drop in female ones. Generally, there was a higher percentage of women taking part in education area than men did.
