Governments should place few, if any, restrictions on scientific research and development.
Research and development have been the base of many new inventions over many years. And for many years great inventions have become one of the main outcomes of research and development. In response, the prompt has mentioned that governments should place a few restrictions on scientific research and development, and I agree to the prompt for the following three reasons.
First of all, research and development are the main sources of innovation and inventions. For example, the current situation of the Covid-19 virus. Governments around the world have been very generous to the research and development, not only financially, but also supporting them with easing the rules and regulations to create a new vaccine, by shortening the time frame of the lab and clinical trials, which will help to foster the time period research might take. This kind of support helps research and development entities - private or governmental- to work with less pressure, which will also give researchers the best support to produce the best quality research leading to the best quality products.
Second of all, research and development help governments to have a strong economy. For example, in the USA, the government sectors are supporting many research schools and entities to develop better research, one of which giving them the needed data to help make better decisions at the management level which will reflect directly to the government economy and development. Thus, this kind of support from the government to the research entities will surely be fruitful cooperation and a win-win situation between the government and these centers.
Third of all, research and development help research centers to create more jobs which will alleviate the pressure on the government jobs that many people are requiring. This will create more jobs and less dependency on government job vacancies. For example, if a government allows fewer restrictions on scientific research and development, more research centers will be willing to open, as many of them are looking to develop more cutting-edge technologies and inventions, but the tight restrictions limit their abilities to build successful research entities.
Many people think that having more restriction government restriction on scientific research and development will not affect the development of their country, but this kind of argument doesn't hold water in our current living situations as there is a plethora of research areas and development that the support and loss restriction will help people to discover more for our own benefit.
