colonize to asteroids
The passage presents three reasons for sending people to an asteroid as the best way to colonization. However, the professor in the lecture completely disagrees with the idea based on the following downsides.
First, The professor argues that although it might be easy to land and take off a spaceship in these asteroids due to the low gravity, it is the low gravity the causes harm to people's health, for example, people stay in a low gravity environment would decrease their bone density, rather say colonize in these asteroids for months or years.
Second, the passage indicates a colony in these asteroids might be profitable by taking back rare metals. But the professor presents that the cost of this business might be high, for instance, when support a colony and transport these metals back to earth it will cost a lot. Meanwhile, when we bring rare metals from space the supplement of these metals increase, which will cause the price of rare metals to decrease.
Finally, the passage points out a fact that people can easily reach these asteroids whose close to the earth. However, the professor believes this fact only holds for a short time, because of the orbital movement. People who fly to these asteroids would find it hard to come back as asteroids have moved a great distance to the earth.
