The line graph illustrates the proportion of cars owned by people living in Britain over a period of 30 years, commencing in 1975.
As can be inferred from the graph, while there were gradual increases in the percentage of owning 2 cars and 3 cars, the downward trend was seen in that of having no car. Another key feature is that possessing 1 car accounted for the highest rate during the period shown.
In 1975, the ratio of having 3 cars in the UK was lowest, with approximately 4%. This figure rose gradually to in the vicinity of 10% by 2005. A similar upward trend was witnessed in the figure for 2 cars, with which climbing from about 6% in 1975 to nearly 19% by the end of the period studied.
A downward pattern was registered in the proportion of having no car. To be specific, the rate of no car was about 44%. This figure decreased significantly to approximately 22% by the last year. Finally, there was a gradual fall in from 45% in the year 1975 to about 39% in 1985 in the ratio of possessing 1 car, before climbing considerably to 45% by the end of the period surveyed.
