The table shows the proportions of pupils attending four different types of secondary schools between 2000 and 2009.
The table gives information about the attendance figures for four types of secondary schools in three different years.
Overall, it is evident that the specialist, grammar and voluntary-controlled schools experienced declines in the number of pupils, whereas the opposite pattern could be observed at community schools making them the most pop3 in terms of attendance levels in the year 2009.
Turning to the details, the proportion of pupils in voluntary-controlled schools fell from just over a half to only 20% from 2000 to 2009. Similarly, the relative number of children in grammar schools which was 24% also dropped by a half in the same period. As for the specialist schools, the relatively small percentage of pupils attended this type of schools, also decreased, although not significantly.
However, while the other three types of schools declined in popularity, the opposite was true in the case of community schools. In fact, while only a small minority of 12% were educated in these schools in 2000, this figure had increased to well over a half of all pupils by the end of the period.
