All education and healthcare should be funded by the government and free for everyone.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It has been said that governments should pay all the cost of education and healthcare for everyone, and these facilities should be free of charge for individuals. I firmly disagree with this statement and I will elaborate on my reasons in the forthcoming paragraphs.
Firstly, a free scholarship should be a reward for the best students. Free education decreases the competitive spirit among students. The tuition fee of universities and postgraduate degrees should be based on the score and the ability of students. Governments can allocate a scholarship for the best students because in that way, trainers try much harder to gain the highest level of qualifications to gain this scholarship, and other students should pay the cost of their training. In addition, students who are not successful to be eligible for this bonus can find their interest in some other skills such as trade jobs. For example, a student who has lower average scores can focus on learning some unrelated to university skills such as woodworking.
Furthermore, unlimited free access to healthcare centres would increase the rate of non-emergency hospital visits. If the hospitals become free, people will visit doctors even for unnecessary problems such as a common cold. Private insurance companies are providing some plans for individuals’ healthcare which help them to overcome the cost of their hospitalization. In these programmes, sometimes governments allocate a certain amount of budget on patients suffering from special ailments such as cancer. In that way, particular patients are covered by outstanding insurance provided by governments which is free, while others are covered by private insurance companies. Such a scheme would let governments spend much more money on some infrastructures which directly elevates the quality of people’s lives.
However, some people believe if governments refuse to pay the cost of these facilities, many people would be deprived of them. By motivating students to do better and addressing the needed patients, governments can save money.
In conclusion, I personally believe that free education should be proposed to the best students , and free healthcare services should be provided for some particular patients by governments.
