The picture below shows how a hot balloon works.
The process illustrates the working of a hot balloon. Overall, what stands out from the diagram is that there are three main sections in the structure of the balloon, including basket, envelope, and burner. In addition, propane is the fuel used to produce the hot air balloon.
It is clear that the envelope is the largest section in the total area which has an inverted teardrop shape. On top of the envelope, there is a parachute valve, which is a self-sealing flap. This valve allows the pilots of balloons to control the rate of the hot air which is escaping. The vertical section below the valve is called gores, which are made up of small panels around the envelope. The envelope tapers into the small base called the skirt, which is attached with the rope. At the bottom of the balloon, the propane cylinder is contained in the basket. The burner is located between the basket and skirt.
Turning to the working of the hot balloon, the propane is mixed with the air in the burner, producing the flame to heat the air. This hot air inside the envelope rises because the hot air is lighter than the cool air in the surrounding atmosphere, leading to the ascent of the balloon.
