Recent figures show an increase in violent crime among youngsters under the age of 18. Some psychologists claim that the basic reason for this is that children these days are not getting the social and emotional learning they need from parents and teachers. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Violence
According to the recent statistics, various psychologists attribute the increasing violent crimes rate among juveniles under 18 to the lack of social and emotional guidance from parents. In my perspective, while I slightly agree with that point of view, I believe that other social factors also contribute to outpouring (surge) in criminal activities. Some of these several reasons are domestic violence and media. Further, this essay will shed light on the following aspects.
To begin with, teenagers nowadays are affection-deprived, due to the long working hours of their parents. Teenagers who are affection-deprived are more likely to experience depression and stress, and overall in worse health conditions. They suffer from anxiety and immune disorders as well. Secondly, domestic violence also has a huge impact among the youth. People usually believe that domestic violence is only limited in physical abuse, but the ugly truth which is not confronted by people ; is that domestic abuse is shaped in many forms; such as verbal abuse, comparing your child to others and insisting on perfectionism. As a result, teenagers will end up with dozen of mental issues, as low self-esteem, feelings like never being good enough and being unworthy. Therefore, they rebel against the society and their parents, by doing and creating riot behaviors.
In addition to the above, external influences as Media content is spoiling the innocent perspective of the little ones. For instance, a TV series I saw recently had a lot of inappropriate content with substance abuse, alcohol consumption, violence. It is greatly famous amongst the youngsters and can affect them in various ways. Social media is an incredible tool to express our feelings, thoughts and ideas, at the same time, it can seriously alter our happiness and lead us to several crimes. Consequently, it is crucial to have control over what we are learning and teaching our sons and daughters.
To conclude, I deliberately agree that not only little parental guidance, but other factors such as drugs and games also result in juvenile crimes. This surely needs to be addressed with caution before it leads them to a bad future.
