The graph below shows the number of passenger railway journeys made in
Great Britain between 1950 and 2004/5.
The line chart compares the information about the figure for commuters moving by
3 railway systems in Great Britain namely National rail network, London
Underground and Light rail & metro systems during the period 55 years from 1950
to 2004/5. Each unit is measured in million of travelers .
As can be seen from the graph , there was a upward trend in the number of
passengers railway journeys of 3 railway systems. In fact , in 1950 the number of
1000 million travelers used National rail network to move, but later it rose slightly
to about 1100 in the next 10 years and falling dramtically to over 600 in 1983.
When it comes to London Underground , the figure for under 750 was recorded in
1950 , then it fluctuated minimally between a high of 700 and a low of 500.
Interestingly , the number of passengers of National rail network and London
Underground were similar throughout the period from 1980 to 2004/5 and reached
the peak at under 1000 and approximately 1100 , respectively .
In contrast , the Light rail & metro systems hadnot been commonly used until 1990
, then it increased steadily to 60 and reaching at about 200 at the end of the period
