Essay topics:

The table below gives information about the underground railway systems in six cities.

The given table reveals data about the date opened, length, and the number of passengers per year of the underground railway systems in six cities.

It is clear that, the rail networks in three cities: London, Paris and Tokyo are older, longer and also more crowded than that in Washington DC, Kyoto and Los Angeles.

The underground railway system in London has the oldest age and it is the only one of six systems built in the 19th century. It is also the largest one, it is 394 kilometers long, nearly double the length of the second-oldest system in Paris. Although Tokyo's network is not the largest or oldest one, with the number of 1927 customers served per year, it is the busiest underground railway system, and it far exceeds the figure of the other five systems.

Turning to the three newer networks, Washington DC's system is the oldest, largest and most crowded of the three. It is 126 km long, which is over 10 fold longer than Kyoto's system and nearly 4 times longer than that of Los Angeles. The number of passengers served by Washington DC's rail network per year is 1.5 times more than that of Kyoto and Los Angeles combined.
