Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific points made in the reading passage
The reading and lecture are both about the growing population. The author of the reading states that increasing population will create a lot of problem in near future. The lecturer disagrees. He says with the advancement of technology, we don’t have to worry much about the problems and attacks each of the claim made in the article.
The author begins by stating, various species of plant and animal are about to extinct as water sources are dirty and they will not get enough fresh water to survive .The speaker believes there are flaws in the writer’s position. He contends that now there are many technologies available to purify dirty water. He goes on to say that biologist and researcher are researching hard about how to preserve the diversity of species.
According to the writer, poverty is another consequence of growing population. Increasing population results in scarcity of basic amenities. The speaker on other hand points out that, again there are technology which can produce food by machine. Thus we need not to worry about we won’t get to eat any food because of growing population.
Also, the reading passage notes that the cost of living will be high. The writer say so because government will not be able to supply the basic necessity to all people and this eventually leads to the high price of good. The professor rebuts this argument, he gives the example of computers and cell phones are now available cheaper than ever before. So, in near future as well we can get our basic needs readily available in low prices.
As we can see, the writer and the speaker holds very different views on consequences of rapid growth population, the speaker effectively challenges the claims made in the article.
