No field of study can advance significantly unless it incorporates knowledge and experience from outside that field.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.
Our world provides us with a lot of choices with regards to fields of study, for example Engineering, Medicine, Business, Arts and many more. These fields have drastically burgeoned over the years. They may or may not have used outside knowledge to gain this growth, hence, I mostly agree with the prompt, although, I do concede that not all fields need to gain knowledge from other ones to be able to flourish.
To begin with, most fields of study are multidisciplinary ones. One has to have knowledge from other fields to be able to progress well. For example, engineering is a field which usually helps other areas, so just learning about engineering concepts and applying them will not be useful. For example, if a new robot needs to be developed for healthcare, the Roboticists need to take into account the various factors from the persepective of the medical field, like the conditions of the patients that will be using it, and then modify the robot accordingly. Furthermore, businesses usually are based on products. Products which are based on other industries than business. Hence they need to have good information about that particular field so as to prosper. So, I feel that outside knowledge is beneficial for a field.
Secondly, I believe that observing things in the environment or knowing concepts from other fields can help in new innovations within a particular field or domain. For instance, career areas like Economics usually are based on how some things are made and the cost of their raw materials affect the overall price of the product and eventually creating an impact on the GDP of the country. If knowledge of these raw materials is less, the country will fail to give the correct GDP values and eventually the entire country will be affected. Therefore, knowledge from other fields is mandatory for a field to grow.
However, I concede that a few fields are completely dependent on the knowledge of themselves and do not need external information to be able to develop new concepts or theories. An example of one such field is Programming. The programming languages are based wholely and solely on the basis of the field of programming, yet this particualr domain has been growing exponentially over the years and has been able to produce various such languages and all of them being different and unique in their own ways. Hence, I feel that the prompt is not valid in such cases.
In conclusion, the prompt discusses a very important and complex topic. However, there is not one specific answer to this and the opinions can vary. But, according to me, the prompt is valid in almost all cases with a few exceptions as mentioned above.
