The diagrams below show the development of the horse over a period of 40 million years. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The diagrams given illustrate the evolution of the horse, especially in terms of the foot structure, over a 40-million-year period.
It is evident from the pictures that there are four main stages shown. Additionally, the development commences with Eohippus and culminates with the modern horse.
Approximately 40 years ago, the horse was known as Eohippus, whose size was quite small, and it had a foot structure emcompassing four digits. About 30 million years ago, at which time the horse was called Mesohippus, its structure of foot exhibited 3 toes. Besides that, the most noticeable transformation was that Mesohippus was bigger compared to Eohippus.
The development continues with the stage called Merychippus, which happened around 15 million years ago. While the size of Merychippus and the number of its toes did not undergo any significant change, the foot structure was divided into segments. Likewise, the middile toe became larger, which rendered it more prominent. Currently, it is recorded that the size of modern horse has developed bigger and it has more fur on its head, accompanied by a foot structure composed of only one large digit.
