Overall, in a period of 15 years, the total number of people living in town and rural areas from two groups of citizens decreased while there was a significant increase in Australia’s city dwellers, which constituted the largest group of citizens among three regions.
Regarding the indigenous population of Australia, in 1995, the proportion of city inhabitants was the highest with nearly 50% before it had exceeded 60% by 2010. Despite the increase in urban residents, the proportion of rural inhabitants dropped from over 30% (1995) to under 20% (2010). The percentage of Australia’s townspeople also decreased slightly in 15 years.
In terms of immigrants to Australia, the percentage of people living in cities soared from 60% to 80% in 15 years. However, at the same time, the percentage of rural citizens fell tenfold from 40% to around 10%. Moreover, there were slightly fewer people residing in towns in 2010 compared to in 1995.
