In 2011,the total New Zealand's population was 4,381,269 compared to 4,410,284 in 2012, which rose by 0,6%. Meanwhile, the number of people aged over 65 witnessed a sharp increase, 4% from 573,946 to 596,903. Simultaneously, the figure for people aged 40-64 years old went up about 4.0%. In 2011, it started with numbers from 573,946 to 596,903 in 2012.
Coming to other aged groups, the 15-39 aged group accounted for the largest of the population in both years although it went down by 2% which decreased from 1.577.256 to 1.574.102. Similarly, people under 15 years old also declined from 898,160 to 896,364, which fell by 0.2%.
