Given high unemployment rate, it is recommended that the government only provide primary education and no secondary education. What do you think?
In light of increasing youth unemployment in the community, many people believe that the government should subsidise only primary school instead of higher levels. However, I personally disagree with this statement, because such change will have detrimental effect to the fabric of the society.
To start with, secondary level is an indispensable for intellectual-required industries. Usually, secondary school is seen as the most pivotal preparation of university, in which students are provided with essential knowledge. While unemployment may be stemmed from lacks of state investment into job provision, secondary school ensures adolescents to have efficient wisdom for further education, therefore generates more well-trained employees in important fields. For example, in order to engage in colleges that educate information technology, a student must possess exceptional mathematics knowledge and logical thinking skill, which is only taught in the secondary level of education. As a result, without appropriate supports from the government to high school attendants, the country will probably suffer from intelligence shortage in the future.
Additionally, if the government stop financially supporting secondary education, social inequality will be exacerbated. In such reality, only children from high-income families are able to attend high schools, accordingly process higher education. Finally, only these lucky fresh graduates can have well-paid jobs and promote further in the career ladder, while youngsters from poor families have to choose manual occupation. This results in a widened income gap between socioeconomic strata, which is a serious inequality in a community.
In conclusion, although at first glance cutting off investment in secondary education appears as a reasonable solution for high unemployment rate, it will reduce the national intellectual ability, and also cause inequality between classes. Therefore, I totally disagree with the statement.
