In a number of countries, some people think it is necessary to spend large sum of money on constructing new railway lines for very fast trains between cities. Others believe the money should be spent on improving existing public transport.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Railways and roads are the two major modes used for public transportation for humans as of now. However, the development of very fast trains is gaining popularity in recent years. Individuals or group of people demand for every mode of transport for their daily life depending on the context such as the geographical, economic and even cultural situations they are currently in. While both the views have advantages and disadvantages, in my opinion which path the country should be following totally depends on the current context and the visions the nation has for itself.
For instance, for a country like China, with the booming economy, fast territory to cover, and the fast-paced culture requires the establishment of fast trains. That is why it is suited for them to have high speed rails between cities. These developments are in line with the country’s future vision for itself as well which matches with their current condition to support itself.
On the other hand, it might not be prudent for a developing country like Bangladesh, with struggling economy with other major areas to focus on to ensure a standard of living for its citizen, to invest in establishing new infrastructure for fast trains at this points. There are plenty of improvement scope for a country like this to make the existing public transportations better.
While, these two examples have an extreme spectrum, there are countries with stable economy and have the luxury to focus on further development ameliorating the life of its people.
