A glance at the first chart reveals that the number of marriages always was bigger than the divorces. In 1970 and 1980 there were 2.5 million marriages, but this indicator had increased slightly during decades and fell to 2 million in 2000. Likewise, there were fluctuations on the amount of divorces, precisely, after reaching approximately 1.4 million, it declined to 1 million in 2000 as it was in 1970.
