The chart illustrates three categories of products and services in terms of the percentage of national consumer expenditure in five countries namely Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Turkey in 2002.
Overall, the ratio of consumer spending on food/drinks/tobacco in each country was the highest, while the leisure/education had the lowest figures in the table.
It is clear that Turkey had the highest proportion of consumer expenditure on food/drinks/tobacco and leisure/education, at 32.14% and 4.35%. Ireland was the second highest on food/drinks/tobacco, nearly 29%, while Italy consumed most on clothing/footwear, stand at 9%.
On the other hand, Sweden had the lowest percentage of consumption on food/drinks/tobacco and clothing/footwear, nearly 6% and just over 5%. Spain had higher figures for these two categories but the ratio of expenditure on leisure/education was the least, nearly 2%.
