The line graph compares the emissions of carbon dioxide in four European countries over a period of 40 years.
It is clear that United Kingdom has the biggest carbon dioxide emissions during 40 years, although the numbers keep going down. By contrast, Portugal has the minimal carbon dioxide emissions in the four countries, despite the numbers keep going up.
In 1967, the carbon dioxide emissions in United Kingdom were the highest, more than double of the emissions in Italy. Between 1967 and 1977, the amount of emission saw the dramatically rises in Sweden, Italy and Portugal, while United Kingdom only has a negligible decline. After 1977, the carbon dioxide emissions in Sweden saw the biggest decline and the emission in Italy and Portugal kept rising.
After 1987, the carbon dioxide emissions in Italy has surpass the emission in Sweden and became the second biggest emission country, with around 7.5 metric tonnes. During 1997 to 2007, the emission in Sweden still saw downtrend, and intersection with Portugal in 2007. By contrast, the carbon dioxide emissions in Italy and Portugal remained stable over a period of 1997 to 2007.
