From 1980 to 2040, the proportion of people were 65 and over 65 years-old in the USA and Sweden have fluctuated widely just under 20%, then were forecasted to peak at around 24% and 27% in 2024 respectively. Meanwhile, the proportion in Japan has rocketed from 3% to 7 times in 2040.
In conclusion, there is an upward trend in the percentage of elderly citizens in all three countries during the one century period. Japan has remained stable from 1940 to 2000, before soaring to the peak in 2040. By contrast, the population aged more than 65 in Sweden and USA has fluctuated, then was predicted to reach a peak in 2040.
