The pie charts compares the percentages of British students in one university in England who can speak not only English but also other languages in two years 2000 and 2010.
It is clear that the percentage of students can speak other languages than only English had seen the increase. In addition, Spanish was the most popular language of those students.
In 2010, the proportion of students who can speak Spanish only was highest, at 30%. The figures for people who speak French only and another languages were lower, at 15%. Around 10% people surveyed can speak German only, which equal with the amount of people who were able to speak two other languages.
The decade from 2000 to 2010 saw a significant decrease in the proportion of students can not speak other language, by 10% from 20% in 2000. The similar downward trend had seen from the figure of French only group, to 10% in 2010. However, the amount of people who can speak Spanish only, another language and two other languages all saw a slightly rise, by 5%. The figure of German only group remained over the decade.
