The bar chart compares owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales in terms of the proportion of households between 1918 and 2011.
Looking at the chart, it is clear that while the figure for households in owned accommodation witnessed an upward trend, that of rented one tended to decrease in the given period.
In 1918, the percentage of households in owned places registered only over a fifth (about 23%), meanwhile the figure for rented houses stood at more than three quarters (78%). An opposite trend was seen in the proportion of owned and rented houses, the figure for owned places fall steadily and that of rented ones rose conversely. An interesting thing in 1971 was both of two kinds of households, the percentage of them became equal (50%).
After that, the proportion of the households in owned accommodation continued increasing and acquired the largest percentage in 2001 at 69%. The least amount of the proportion of households in rented places also stood in 2001, at 31%. At the end of the period, the figure for owned houses was approximately double for that of rented houses (about 63% and 37% respectively).
