The bar chart illustrates the proportion of UK's workforce dividing by five main industries between two years, 1841 and 2011. It is clear that all industries were suffered a significant change in employment during the period, especially in services, manufacturing and agriculture/fishing.
In 1841, the number of employees working in services just accounted for a quarter, however, it had jumped dramatically to 81% of total workforce by 2011. By contrast, the two industrial lines, manufacturing and agriculture/fishing, saw a significant decline during the period. Manufacturing industry experienced a decrease from 36% to 9% and agriculture/fish even dropped to 1% from 22% of staffs.
Besides the above fluctuations, the remaining industrial lines had a steadily trend as in both years, they just accounted for under 10% of total employees in the UK. While construction reported a slightly increase by 3%, the workforce of energy/water, however decreased by 2% in 2011.
In conclusion, there was a significant movement in workforce among industries in UK, which the most employees transferred apparently from manufacturing and agriculture/fishing to services during 1841 - 2011.
