Essay topics:

The line graph shows the number of trips to other countries by UK residents for various purposes between 1989 and 2001.

The graphs provide data on how many oversea trips were taken by UK citizens for different aims from 1989 to 2001.
Overall, holidays were the reason for most trips. The total number of trips grew steadily between 1989 and 1998.
In 1989, among a total of 47 million abroad trips taken by people in the UK, there were 30 million trips for vacation, around 8 million business trips and 5 million trips to visit relatives or because of other purposes.
In the following 9 years, the demand for leisure tourism incessantly grew (to 50 million journeys) which immensely contributed to the increase of 26.5 million in the total number of trips. However, the number of holiday trips then saw a drop by over 10 million, partly leading to the decline to 61 million total trips.
The figures for business trips and trips for other purposes followed the same pattern, minimally increasing to 10 million and 8 million respectively in 1995 before falling to 8 and about 2 million at the end of period. Trips to visit family members witnessed a growth from 5 million to 12 million during the period shown.
