The pie charts illustrate the proportion of the water usage in six regions of the world, divided into three categories: industrial, agricultural and domestic use.
Overall, it is worth highlighting that the majority of the amount of water is utilized for agricultural purposes in South America, Asia and Africa countries while around a half of the water in North America and Europe goes for industrial sectors.
In terms of using water for irrigation, it is evident that Central Asia, South East Asia and Africa are in the top three areas using water account for 88%, 81% as well as 84%, sequentially. Simultaneously, the percentage of water used for this purpose in South America is the lowest compare to three countries above, however it still makes up for a large amount with 71%, which is nearly 2.5 and 7 times as much as that in Europe and North America with 32% and 13%, respectively.
In regard to industrial use of water, North America and Europe witness the high ratio of water usage, accounted for 48% and 53%, sequentially. While the proportion of water used for industry are lowest in Central Asia (5%), Africa (7%) and South America (10%) in general. Meanwhile, there is approximately a fifth and a seventh of the amount of water used for domestic use in South America and Europe, respectively, followed by the number for North America and Africa are 13% and 9%. Eventually, Central Asia and South East Asia consume the same amount of water at 7%.
