The line graph illustrates changes in the number of cars in Britain during the period from 1971 to 2007.
Overall, there were general upward trends in those who owned two and three cars or more, whereas the proportion of people without a car experienced a reverse pattern. It is also clear that the figure for one car ownership generally remained over the given period.
Starting at around 45% in 1971, the rate of people with one car was almost unchanged until 2007. In comparison, about 8% of British citizens possessed two cars in the first year. In the following 11 years, the proportion of this group witnessed a dramatic increase to reach its peak of nearly 27%, compared to a nearly twofold decrease from just under 50% to 25% in 2007 in terms of people who had no car.
Regarding the remaining group, only 1% owned three or more cars in the first eight years. However, there was a continual rise in its figure, reaching roughly 16% at the end of the period.
