The map illustrates the significant development of a village called Chorleywood from 1868 to 1994. Overall, the transportation system was improved by constructing a motorway and a railway, going with the appearance of numerous areas around the intersections and along the roads of the village.
The origin map of the village was actually simple consisting of two main roads crossing each other, a small area located near one of the roads. In the first period of the village's development, there was an appearance of a railway expanded to the East and West, intersecting one of the main roads, at the same time, a site built around the intersection just mentioned above.
1909 witnessed the debut of railway road which located in the South of the village. Approximately ten years later, new areas were built up around the Chorleywood Station and the cross-section nearby. At the end of the 1922-1970 period, besides the previous traffic system, a motorway was built and intersecting with them, creating a checked pattern between these paths. In the latest period mentioned in the map, it showed the greatest changes of Chorleywood village through the emergence of numerous new areas gathering around the intersections created by the motorway, which obviously conveyed the significant development of Chorleywood.
