The diagram illustrates the process of manufacturing electricity from a hydroelectric power station.
Overall, generating energy from water through this power station requires two main stages: one happens in daytime, the other happens at night.
During the day, water from the river above would flow into a high-level reservoir before running through the dam's intake (which opens at day). As the result of gravity, water creates pressure while flowing from the intake to the generator inside the power station below. This water, after passing through the generator's turbines to generate power would be kept inside a low-level reservoir for the rest of the day. In the meantime, the amount of power produced would be transported to the national grid using a set of power lines.
In the nighttime, the process is reversed with water in the low-level reservoir being pumped back up to the high-level one thanks to the force created by the generator turbines. Even though the dam's intake closes at night to avoid water from flowing down the power station, it can still be opened from the other side so that water could reach the higher reservoir.
