In general, while the majority of countries underwent an increase in visitors, those in China showed the reverse. However, no downturn in tourists’ expenses was seen with the US attracting the highest.
In 2012, France attracted the most tourists with 83 million people, making up to $53.6 billion in transactions. Meanwhile, Italy only made up half of France’s visitors which contributed up to, $41.2 billion in transactions. More than 57 million people visited Spain and China while those in Spain spent a $6 billion higher budget than China. Also, the US had 66.7 visitors, with $126.2 billion in transactions.
A year later, although an increase in France’s visitors remained the highest, the largest transactions were seen in the US with $139.6 billion. Also, while both China's and Spain's tourist transactions rose, only the former received more visitors by 3 million people. Italy remained to have the least visitors and tourist transactions by the end of the year with only 47 million people which contributed to a $43 billion bill.
