The line graph illustrates the proportion of total expenditure in a certain European country between 1960 and 2000.
The given line graph sheds lights on the percentage of total spending on five different categories in a European nation in the 40-year period, namely food, leisure purpose, clothes, transportation and energy consumption.
As can be seen from the graph, all mentioned expenditure sources exhibited downturn patterns during the given period with transportation was the only exception. Additionally, the consumption of energy accounted for the least proportion.
Considering the figures for Food, commencing the period at roughly 35%, it was then on a sharp plummet to only 14% in 2000. Leisure activity expenditure also bore some resemblance to that of Food, with a steady decline from 19% to around 11% at the end of the mentioned period.
What is worth noticeable is the adverse tendency of citizen’s spending for transporting purpose, made up just 9% in 1960. The data was then on a sharp growth, beating Clothes section in 1965, surpassing Leisure in 1989 prior to exceeding the Food category to gain the first position in 2000. Considering the same period of time, it was shown that people have the tendency to spend less on Fuel and Clothing, which was responsible for 3% and 5% of their total expenditure in 2000 respectively.
