In a general overview, the U. S. Government spent the most in health research sector whereas the least was spent in general science.
In 1998, with regard to health research, the expenditure started with around $8 billion, this budget slightly dipped to $7 billion in 1984 and gradually continued to double the amount spent in this category in 1996, in the next four years drastically increased to $22 billion reaching its peak in 2000 before dropping to $18 billion in 2004. The US government spent around $6 billion dollars to explore space in 1998 and saw a dip in 1984 spending $5 billion, whereas the figure increased continuously reaching $14 billion in 2008.
Meanwhile, there is also an increase in the money invested into the research of energy and general science, from approximately $2.5 billion and $5 billion in 1980 to $ 5 billion and $7. 5 billion. In contrast, other being the only sector which saw a decrease in expenditure, which fell approximately from $7. 5 billion in 1980 to about $5 billion by 2008.
