The first image illustrates the major causes of the decline in the productivity of farming soil. Whilst, the second one depicts how these reasons impacted three areas of the world in the 1990s.
Overall, the pie chart shows that the major causes of land degradation worldwide were overgrazing followed by deforestation, over-cultivation, and other factors. The table brings out that Oceania was the most affected followed by Europe and North America.
According to the charts, overgrazing was accredited with an impact of 35% in the reduction of soil production around the world. This ratio was slightly above that of deforestation at 30% which was closely followed by over-cultivation which was responsible for 28% and other factors contributed a mere 7%.
In the second image, the data from the table clearly shows that Oceania had the highest percentage of agricultural land that lost fertility, 13% with the major contributor to this fact being overgrazing at 11. 3%. The second most affected was Europe at 23%, owing to a high rate of deforestation, 9. 8%. North America at 5% with over cultivation the leading contributor at 3. 3%.
