The chart below shows the number of jobs in tourism-related industries in one UK city between 1989 and 2009. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words.
The bar chart aforementioned illustrates the quantity of touring occupations related to industries from 1989 to 2004 in a particular British urban area.
From an overall perspective, it is evident that the number of people hired by restaurants showed an upward trend, whereas a reverse pattern could be observed in the figure for sport and leisure and travel and tours over the course of 20 years starting from 1989.
Another impression from the chart is people tended to work in restaurants, making it become the most prevalent job in comparison with other categories, at around 1100 people in 1989. At the same time, the data on hotels and sport and leisure was lower, at approximately 1000 and 900, respectively. Travel and tours, however, accounted for the lowest number, at nearly 800.
After reaching a peak of 1600 in 2004, the city witnessed a sudden decrease in the number of employees working in restaurants, at 1300 people. After rising to exactly 1400 in 1994, the records of hotels consistently declined to a low of over 1000 at the end of the observed period. Meanwhile, there was a dramatic fluctuation in the figure for sport and leisure-related employment, between 900 and 700 over the two decades. Similarly, the data on travel and tours experienced a significant variation from 800 in 1989 to 400 in 2009.
