The chart below shows the percentage of the day working adults spent doing different activities in a particular country in 1958 and in 2008.
The pie charts illustrate how much time a day employed people spent engaging in various activities in 1958 and 2008, in a certain nation.
Overall, there was an upward trend in the proportion of time spent working, relaxing at home, and commuting to work, while a decrease was seen in the figures for sleeping and going out. In addition, working people spent the majority of their day working in both years.
The percentage of day adults spent at work started at 33% in 1958, after which it experienced a noticeable growth to nearly a half in 2008. A similar trend can be seen in the figure for time spent relaxing at home in one day, which slightly rose from 8% in 1958 to 13% in 2008. Besides, in 2008, working people spent 8% of their day traveling to the workplace, which was four times as high as the figure fifty years ago.
The proportions of a day spent sleeping and going out with friends and family reduced moderately by 7% and 13%, respectively. Meanwhile, employed people only spent a minor fraction (6%) taking part in other activities such as sports.
