The charts give the information about the proportion of 60 -64 years old men and women in employment in four countries in 1970 and 2000.
Overall, the percentage of women aged 60-64 in employment did not show any remarkable change between 1970 and 2000 while there is an upward trend in the figure for men. Moreover, the percentage of men overwhelmed that of women in four countries in1970 and 2000.
It is substantial that about four-fifth men aged 60-64 were employed in Japan in 1970, roughly twice as much as the figure for women in both two years surveyed, before going down to 74 percent in 2000. With only around 7%, Belgium had the lowest proportion of 60-64 year old female employees and witnessed a sharp decrease of 60% in male employees aged 60-64 in 2000.
In addition, the USA and Australia show a significant fall of 18% and 29%, respectively in 2000. Interestingly, the percentage of female employees aged 60-64 in the USA was around 39% in 1970 and 2000, about twice as much as that in Australia.
