"Nowadays, a growing number of people with health problems are trying alternative medicines and treatments instead of visiting their usual doctor. Do you think this is a positive or a negative development?"
The statement claims that instead of getting treatment from the usual doctors, a significant number of people nowadays have chosen alternative medicine and prescription. Although there are some positive consequences of this development, I think these can outweighed by drawbacks.
On the one hand, there are numerous disadvantages to this development. First, choosing alternative treatment can create distrust of the usual doctors. Doctors are needed for various purposes such as for surgery, diagnosis the diseases, and proper treatment. Alternative medicine can provide temporary relief but in the long run doctor is required. For example, in South Asia, herbal medicine has large popularity as an optional treatment. However, it cannot be an option for complex diseases and treatment. As a result, a large number of people are suffering a lot from using this medicine.
Second, using substitute medicine for quick remedies leads the doctor to provide the drugs that cure the problems quickly but have a long-term effect. This practice can affect badly on the whole health sector. For instance, for fungus treatment, experts use steroid medicine that provides relief in a day but can create serious problems in the future. They do this just because sustain themselves in the competition. They haven't anything to do to keep their passion alive just because of choosing the patient alternative medicine.
Moreover, as a huge number of people are eager to use the option, many fake doctors and charlatans can take the opportunity.
On the other hand, there are a few advantages of this practice. Firstly, this trend can make doctors more conscious of providing the best service. In Africa and South Asia, doctor thinks of themself as a superior ruler, and because of their autocracy, many poor people don't get adequate treatment. There are some optional cheap medicines such as homeopathy can grow for this trend.
In conclusion, every development has both negative and positive aspects. The trend to choose substitute medicine and service instead of usual doctors has many negative sides. Distrustness toward the doctor, quick remedy practices, and charlatan's growth are most of them. So, all these effects prove it's a negative development.
